Damage to your GRP hull is a fact of yacht ownership, and left alone even a small chip lets water into the laminate. Our GRP specialists return hulls and superstructures to an as-new finish. Every repair is colour-matched to the surrounding surface, flatted, polished and blended, bringing your hull back to its original condition.
Why the finish matters. Gelcoat is not like paint. It's a structural surface layer, and it's the first line of defence between the sea and the laminate underneath. A repair that looks acceptable but is porous, badly matched or poorly cured will fail - usually within a season. Usually somewhere visible.
Our GRP team works to the same tolerances the yards themselves demand, in controlled workshop conditions with proper extraction and temperature control. That's what makes a repair invisible, and what makes it last.
Gelcoat repair, colour matching and refinishing.
Chips, scratches, crazing, star cracks and impact marks. We match the original colour and finish - including metallic and dark hull colours, which are the hardest to get right - and blend the repair into the surrounding gelcoat.
Structural GRP and composite repairs.
Where damage goes beyond the surface, our laminators rebuild the structure properly: grinding back to sound material, laying up new glass and resin to the correct schedule, and restoring full strength before any cosmetic work begins.
Osmosis treatment and hull protection.
Blistering in an older hull needs diagnosis before it needs treatment. We'll assess the extent of the problem, peel and dry the laminate where necessary, and re-coat with a full epoxy barrier system to protect against recurrence.
Full polish, compound and ceramic protection.
Oxidised, chalky gelcoat can almost always be brought back. We machine compound and polish the hull and superstructure, then protect it with a ceramic coating that holds the gloss, resists UV and makes routine washdowns far easier.
Insurance work.
We work directly with marine insurers and surveyors on repair claims. We'll quote to their requirements, liaise with the loss adjuster and keep you out of the paperwork wherever we can.
Can you match my hull colour exactly?
In almost all cases, yes. We colour-match to the surrounding gelcoat rather than to the original factory code, because pigments shift with UV exposure over the years. Dark and metallic hulls take more skill and more time, but they can be matched.
How long does a GRP repair take?
A minor gelcoat chip can be done in a day. Structural composite work and osmosis treatment run to weeks, as the laminate needs time to dry and cure properly. We'll give you a realistic timescale before we start.
Will my insurer cover the work?
Impact and accidental damage is usually covered; gradual deterioration and osmosis generally are not. We handle insurance repairs regularly and can quote in the format your insurer needs.
How do I know if my hull has osmosis?
Blisters below the waterline are the obvious sign, but moisture readings taken after a lift are the reliable test. It's worth checking on any GRP hull over about fifteen years old.
